I completed my internship and residency in Newcastle (NSW) and am now a paediatric registrar in the Western Sydney area.
2. What inspired you to become a volunteer with The Water Well Project?
I have a keen interest in cross-cultural work. Cultural beliefs and environmental influences are important health determinants. I am so privileged to have this opportunity to support and share my knowledge with people from various backgrounds and worldviews, all while improving my cross-cultural communication skills.
3. Please share one of your favourite The Water Well Project sessions or moments.
I often volunteer at playgroups, where we chat about common child health and developmental issues. It is so refreshing to see well children who would happily crawl up to me with their toothless smiles after a session (and sometimes during the session!). This is in stark contrast to the kids I see at work who are often wary as soon as I come close!
4. What tips do you have for new volunteers?
I myself am a new volunteer but I’ve been encouraged to jump right in and give it a go- no regrets, that was the best advice I’ve had so far.
