Volunteer of the Month – April 2023: Annabelle

1. What is your background (profession/ workplace/ training)?

I am a junior doctor at The Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, wanting to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology.

2. What inspired you to become a volunteer with The Water Well Project?

I was inspired to join The Water Well Project as I think education is so important and opens many doors for new Australians. It’s a great organisation that can really pay it forward to refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.

3. Please share one of your favourite The Water Well Project sessions or moments.

My favourite The Water Well Project session was on mental health and wellbeing, where some of the participants shared what they enjoy doing for their wellbeing. There was a 90 year old woman who told us how much she enjoyed being active in her garden and being part of the community group - it was very inspiring.

4. What tips do you have for new volunteers?

My tip for new volunteers is to get your group talking and sharing their stories - you can learn so much from them and gain some valuable insights into their lives.
