Free health education sessions for your community group.
Does your organisation work with migrant, refugee or asylum seeker communities? The Water Well Project can come to your group’s usual meeting place to deliver free, interactive health education sessions that are practical, culturally responsive and shaped around your community’s needs. We currently work with community organisations across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.
About our sessions
The Water Well Project provides free, interactive health education sessions facilitated by volunteer healthcare professionals.
We work with community organisations and community representatives to understand what your group wants to learn about, what questions they may have, and what health information would be most useful to them.
Sessions are held in places where community members already feel comfortable, such as neighbourhood houses, settlement services, school hubs, community centres and regular group meeting spaces.
Professional interpreters can be requested for sessions held within standard business hours, Monday to Friday.
Why request a session?
Many community members face real barriers to understanding health information and navigating the Australian healthcare system. This can make it harder to know when to seek help, where to go, what questions to ask or how to access preventative care.
Our sessions help make health information clearer, more practical and easier to act on. They also create a safe space for community members to ask questions directly to healthcare professionals.
How our model works
We meet people where they are. Our sessions are not lectures, they are conversations shaped around the needs, interests and experiences of the group.
•we talk with you about your group and what health topics would be most useful
•we co-design the session with community representatives wherever possible
•we come to the group’s usual meeting place, where people already feel comfortable
•sessions are facilitated by volunteer healthcare professionals, e.g. doctors, nurses, pharmacists etc.
•interpreters can be requested where needed
•participants are encouraged to ask questions and share what matters to them
•sessions are free for eligible community groups across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania
