About This Event


Induction session for healthcare professionals interested in becoming volunteers for The Water Well Project in Hobart. Come find out about how you can contribute your skills and knowledge to help improve the health literacy of communities from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

Date: Monday 8th April 2019
Time: 6:15pm registration for 6:30pm start, to finish by 8:30pm.
Venue: Medical Science Precinct, University of Tasmania – 17 Liverpool St, Hobart, TAS 7000
Other info: Light catering will be provided.

Program (TBC):
1. Introduction to The Water Well Project
2. Refugee and asylum seeker health
3. Introduction to facilitation & working with interpreters
4. Interactive workshops
5. Volunteer Q&A session

Event open to:  40 attendees (up to 15 doctors, 15 allied health professionals and 10 final year students of any relevant healthcare discipline).

We have a long waiting list of interested volunteers, so please only sign up if you will be present for the whole session.

Eligibility criteria:
1. Be a qualified healthcare professional or final year student in a healthcare related discipline. Details of registration with AHPRA must be provided (where applicable). Please check our website for details.
2. Be prepared to apply for a volunteer Working with children card at a later date

Sign-ups will only be accepted via the website. To do this register your details on the website, then go to our Events page, and sign up to attend our “induction session”. We have a long waiting list of interested volunteers, so please only sign up if you will be present for the whole session
