Volunteer of the Month – February 2019: Hasanul

1. What is your background (profession/ workplace/ training)?

I am currently doing a locum year after working in ICU last year.

2. What inspired you to become a Water Well volunteer?

Growing up in low socioeconomic areas showed me that health literacy is quite poor in such sectors of society and education has the propensity to change things at a generation level. Prevention is much better than treatment.

3. Please share one of your favourite Water Well sessions or moments.

When I delivered an oral health session to women of my own Bengali community who were so grateful for the simple information we provided. Reminded me of my own mum's initial struggles in Australia and how useful such sessions would have been for her.

4. What tips do you have for new volunteers?

Sessions should be simple, interactive as possible and use lots of visual aids including big posters.
