Welcome to www.thewaterwellproject.org (the Site).  This Site is owned and operated by The Water Well Project Inc (ABN 38177 188 057)  (collectively, 'us', 'we' or 'The Water Well Project').  The term 'you' refers to the person accessing or using the Site or our Services, or the company or organisation on whose behalf that person accesses the Site or our Services.

 

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the Site.  This Privacy Policy is deemed to be incorporated into this Site's terms and conditions of use (Terms of Use) and should be read together with this Privacy Policy.

 

Capitalised terms used that are not defined in this Privacy Policy have the meaning given to them in the Terms of Use.

1.  Your Privacy

We know that your privacy is important to you, so your privacy as you use our Site is very important to us. We treat personal data with respect and integrity. This Privacy Policy explains how personal data will be treated as you access and interact with this Site. Any personal data collected under this current Privacy Policy will be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We will comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) in relation to any personal information you provide.

By browsing, accessing or using the Site or by using any facilities or services made available through it or by transacting through or on it, you acknowledge and warrant that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by and our Terms of Use, including this Privacy Policy, whether or not you are a Registered User. In the event of any inconsistency between the provisions of this Privacy Policy and those other specific and additional provisions, the specific and additional provisions will prevail.

3.  Information Collected

The information about you which this Site may collect includes:

(a)        User Registration Information provided by Users, which may include, your name, email address, title, date of birth, home address, telephone number, workplace details, languages spoken or personal interests;

(b)        any information or opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion that you volunteer while using this Site;

(c)        the content of electronic forms you submit via this Site, requesting us to provide services or information, or take actions;

(d)        personalisation preferences you select as you use the Site;

(e)        information about Users from other sources, such as public records or bodies or private organisations; and

(f)         any messages, comments, photos, videos or events you submit via this Site (together, Personally Identifiable Information).

To help us administer and improve the Site, we may also collect aggregated information which tells us about visitors to this Site but not the identity of those visitors. For example, we may collect information about the date, time and duration of visits and which pages of this Site are most commonly accessed.

We only collect Personally Identifiable Information to the extent necessary for one or more of our functions or activities.  If you do not provide any requested Personally Identifiable Information to us, we may not be able to provide you with access to and use of this Site, the Site Content or our Services.

4. Accessing and changing your Personally Identifiable Information

We are committed to ensuring that you have control over your personal information. If you wish to have your Personally Identifiable Information deleted, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it unless we need to keep it for legal, auditing or internal risk management reasons). It may be impossible to completely delete all of your information because we keep track of past transactions and information is periodically backed up.

You may also request that we confirm whether we hold any Personally Identifiable Information about you and, where applicable, request that we provide you with a copy of your Personally Identifiable Information (which may be subject to an administrative charge). We will require adequate proof of your identity before disclosing any Personally Identifiable Information to you.

We reserve our right to refuse your request for access or correction to your Personally Identifiable Information in certain circumstances, but will provide you with reasons for its refusal to do so.

5. Use and disclosure of your Personally Identifiable Information

We may use or disclose your Personally Identifiable Information collected about you (and you consent to us doing so), for the purposes for which it is collected and for any related purposes, including the following:

(a)        to provide this Site, the Site Content and the Services to you and to manage our relationship with you;

(b)        where you have requested it or in accordance with privacy laws, to provide you with information relating to The Water Well Project, this Site, the Site Contents and our Services or promotional details about products and services that may be of interest to you;

(c)        purposes connected with the operation, administration, development or enhancement of the Site including purposes related to our research, planning, product and service development and testing;

(d)        where a third party acquires or wishes to acquire, or makes inquiries in relation to acquiring, an interest in The Water Well Project;

We may share your Personally Identifiable Information within our association and with third parties including our external advisors, service providers, subcontractors and suppliers, who assist us in providing this Site and our products and services.  We will only provide third parties with the information necessary to perform their functions, and will not allow them to use that information for any other purposes.  We require that the third party respect your privacy and not disclose your information to other organisations without your consent, but beyond that, the third party's use of your information is governed by their privacy policies. We do not have any responsibility for the actions of third parties, and the actions of third parties are not in our control. We specifically disclaim any responsibility or liability for the actions of such third parties.

We may use and disclose aggregated non-personally identifying information collected through the Site as part of constantly improving the Site.

6. Trans-border data flows

We may transfer (and you consent to us transferring) your Personally Identifiable Information outside of Australia where the transfer is necessary for one or more of the purposes contemplated by the Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy. However, any transfer of information does not change our commitment to safeguard your privacy.

7. How we handle email and 'Contact us' messages

We may preserve the content of any email or 'Contact us' or other electronic message received. Any Personally Identifiable Information contained in those messages will only be used or disclosed in ways set out in this Privacy Policy. The message content may be monitored by our service providers or our employees for purposes including compliance auditing and maintenance or where email abuse is suspected.

This Site may, from time to time, contain links to the websites of other organisations which may be of interest to you. Linked websites are responsible for their own privacy practices and you should check those websites for their respective privacy statements. 9. Other Information

In order to maintain and improve the Site, we gather some statistical data when you visit the Site. The exact information collected may vary, but can include the date and time of an access to our site, the Internet Protocol address of a computer requesting a page, the pages requested, and computer and connection information such as browser type and operating system. We do not associate this statistical information with your Personally Identifiable Information.

10. Security of Information

We use a number of mechanisms to protect the security and integrity of personal data. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed as completely secure. So while we strive to protect such information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us and individuals do so at their own risk. A username and password is essential for you to use the 'Members Only' section of the Site. For your own protection, we require you to keep these confidential and to change your password regularly. Our employees and contractors may be given access to Registered User details and if so, only on a password-protected basis.

Like many major websites, the Site may use 'cookies' which store some information on computers accessing the Site. Cookies may be used by us for a variety of purposes. For example, to recognise a computer which has previously visited this Site and customise the Site according to previous preferences and site behaviour. 12. Web Beacons

Like many websites, the Site may also use web beacons, also known as pixel tags, spotlight tags or web bugs, to improve our understanding of site traffic, visitor behavior, and response to promotional campaigns, as a supplement to our server logs and other methods of traffic and response measurement. We may also implement pixel tags provided by other companies, for the same purpose. Information collected through the use of activity tags on our Site is never linked to any Personally Identifiable Information.
