Volunteer of the Month – September 2018: Thivvy

1. What is your background (profession/ workplace/ training)?

My name is Thivvy and I'm currently a third-year medical student at the University of Melbourne with interests in Oncology and Palliative Care. I have been volunteering with The Water Well Project for just over 12 months now.

2. What inspired you to become a Water Well volunteer?

Despite being born here, descending from a Tamil refugee background has meant that I have a vested interested in improving healthcare opportunities and outcomes for migrant, refugee and asylum seeker populations in Australia. As such, I was quick to contact Linny once I first came across TWWP at the 2017 Crossing Borders' Refugee Health Symposium in Melbourne.

I have since been a member of the Digital Team and am responsible for running our website, including updates, blog posts and dealing with any technical queries. I am continually learning new skills each day and enjoy working with such a fun and supportive team.

Next year, I will be in my final year of med-school and look forward to completing an induction and running my own health promotion sessions. I strongly encourage anyone like me, who has similar interests and passions to get in touch with our friendly team and join us in working towards such a great cause.
